I am the office manager of a contruction company. We needed some extra help so my friend told me to hire a new acquaintance of ours. She has been working with me for about 6 months and is now one of my best friends. I love her to death but she is not doing her job well. My boss wants to get rid of her. He told me that he thinks she is dumber than a 3 dollar bill and he hates coming into the office when she is here. A few weeks ago my boss told me they were going to let her go in mid January when they get back from hawaii. I told my friend so that she would have time to look for a new job. She was very upset about this. She didn't know how she could get fired from "the easiest job ever". Well now my boss wants to get rid of her right away. Am I wrong to keep that information to myself this time so that she doesn't get upset again?

If you value your job and your relationship with your boss, you will not tell her. The friendship rule does not apply when you are at work.

No, you should definitely tell her. It would be harder on her if it hit her unexpectedly.
Besides, it sounds like the reason she isn't good is because she thinks it's easy, so she slacks off (Just an assumption based on what you've said, of course).
